Q. What changes are others noticing about you?
A. About a year after I started following Jesus, I was talking with my mother while ironing and burnt a hole in my dress. When I saw the damage, I said, “Oh well,” and let it go. My mother remarked, “Before you did this church stuff, you would have thrown that iron across the room!” My relationships also improved as I focused more on serving others. I remember my colleagues taunting me when I quit smoking. I felt no anger or temptation, only good humor.
Q. What advice would you give someone just starting his or her spiritual path?
A. Follow Jesus one hundred percent. There is nothing more fulfilling than his companionship. Speak with him and do what he asks. There is a price to pay for following Jesus. Pay it willingly, because the rewards are greater than you can imagine. Read the Bible, God’s love letter to you. God speaks to us through the Bible and shows us how to live. A passage in Romans 8:15 explains it well. “This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant as we greet God with a childlike, ‘What’s next, Papa?’”
